Many factors can contribute to hair loss and hair thinning. Multiple causes of hair loss may exist simultaneously. Accurate diagnosis and determining the etiology of hair loss is crucial when determining the appropriate treatment regimen to yield optimal results. The following are some of the various identified causes of hair loss:
The growth and proliferation of hair follicles is a cyclical process that is divided into 4 major phases: Anagen (growth phase), Catagen (transition phase), Telogen (rest phase), and Exogen (shedding phase). Each phase of the hair growth cycle has its timeline which can be affected by factors such as aging, hormonal changes, stress, nutritional status, and overall health. Each hair follicle functions as an independent unit.
There are various types of hair transplant options available. Your hair restoration specialist can guide you on which option is best suited for your desired results.
FUE hair transplant is an innovative non-surgical technique that involves harvesting small segments of tissue containing healthy hair follicles from donor sites located on the back and sides of the scalp. Once individually extracted, the “follicular units” are carefully transplanted to areas of hair thinning and balding.
FUT hair transplant also termed the “Strip Method” is an alternative technique used in hair transplantation. Unlike FUE hair transplant where follicular units are individually harvested, the FUT method involves removing a strip of healthy tissue from the donor site located on the back or sides of the scalp. The hair follicles are then separated from the strip into multiple units for transplant in the desired areas. Patients are left with a thin linear scar at the donor site that is easily concealed with longer hairstyles.
FUT and FUE hair transplant procedures are indicated for patients who are experiencing certain patterns of hair loss or hair thinning on the scalp, eyebrow, or beard areas. Patients may notice their hairline receding, their part becoming wider, or generalized hair thinning. Male and Female Pattern Baldness also referred to as male or female androgenic or androgenetic alopecia are the most common indications for these procedures. If patients have tried other restorative treatments for hair loss without significant improvement, hair transplant has proven to be extremely effective. There is no age bracket that defines who may undergo hair transplantation. It is a suitable option for numerous patients ranging in age from their mid-20s even into their 70s given that they are in good general health with good donor density. Patients with hair loss due to systemic, autoimmune, or inflammatory conditions may not be ideal candidates.

Hair loss and hair thinning can be quite distressing for patients and often contribute to lowered self-esteem and displeasure with appearance. Innovative hair transplant techniques such as FUE yield impressive aesthetic results for patients. The following are some of the many benefits of hair transplantation when done by the best hair transplant specialist:
The risks involved with FUE/FUT hair transplantation include poor results, over-harvesting, damaging the existing hair follicles, poor choice of hairline restoration, incorrect angle of hair implantation, and scar tissue formation among others. However, due to the extensive experience and expertise of Dr. Mazloom and his team, and their meticulous approach, our patients see excellent, natural, and lasting outcomes. We also provide appropriate follow-up and post-care to ensure optimal patient results.
It takes a few months to start seeing the results but typically takes a year or longer to see full results from your hair restoration procedure. We take a comprehensive approach and recommend several post-procedure products and treatments that can speed up and enhance your results.
Both the FUE and FUT hair transplant procedures are safe, minimally invasive, and require little downtime with a majority of patients able to return to work within 2-3 days. It is normal for patients to experience mild pain or discomfort for the first couple of days following hair transplantation. Typically these symptoms are relieved with the use of over-the-counter pain medication including Tylenol or Ibuprofen. Temporary mild swelling, bruising, and bleeding at the procedural site may occur, but this will resolve within the first couple of days. Daily activities of living may resume shortly after the procedure, however, patients are advised to refrain from vigorous exercise for about 2 weeks following both the FUE and FUT procedures. Our patients should wait at least 48 hours before washing their hair and are instructed to use a special shampoo to cleanse the sites.
Traditionally, a majority of hair restoration procedures and products have been centered around the treatment of men’s hair loss. It is important to note that many women suffer from hair loss throughout their lifetime and it can have major psychological effects for many of these patients. At REJUVA Dermatology, we recognize the psychological impact hair loss can have on patients, both men and women. We offer a variety of treatment options, both surgical and non-surgical, for the treatment of hair loss and hair thinning in women.
Hair restoration in women requires expertise and complete familiarity with various types of hair loss in females and specific techniques that are required for hair restoration in women.
Non-surgical hair restoration treatments including the use of Platelet Rich Plasma injections, topical medications applied directly to the scalp, oral medications, and hair growth supplements may be ideal for patients who do not feel ready to undergo surgical hair transplantation. These options are best suited for patients who are in the beginning stages of hair loss. Treatment may vary depending on the patient’s gender and specific type of hair loss.
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has many uses within dermatology and aesthetic medicine. At REJUVA Dermatology & Vein Center here in Venice FL, we use an advanced form of PRP called Platelet-rich Fibrin Matrix (PRFM) to stimulate hair growth, promote skin rejuvenation and revitalization, and accelerate the healing process. PRP is one of the most effective and natural ways to battle hair loss. This procedure utilizes your own platelets which are obtained during an in-office blood draw to stimulate new hair growth, increase hair volume and density, and aid in the prevention of hair loss. The procedure is simple, quick, and efficient and yields significant results for patients.
At REJUVA we use the newest and most advanced hair regrowth formulas including human bone marrow and umbilical cord stem cells extracts, exosomes and hair growth factors for maximum hair growth and hair loss prevention. Exosomes are nanoparticles produced by stem cells that act as one of the body’s communication systems and deliver important biomolecules from cell to cell. They contain three times the growth factors found in stem cells. Exosomea are more than just growth factors, they carry proteins, signaling molecules, miRNA, and MRNA which help modulate downstream mechanisms associated with hair growth and hair loss prevention, fibroblast growth, collagen production, increased elastin production and overall rejuvenation. We use a comprehensive and combination approach for our hair loss patients for the most enhanced and lasting results. These can also be used in conjunction with hair transplant to enhance the results.
